Here I would lke to share the safety color code that usually used in Oil & Gas Area that refer to OSHA 1910.144. The Type of Color and the meaning/ function and identification while marking the equipment or piping or etc :
COLOR IDENTIFICATION
1. RED
Red shall be the basic color for the identificaton of :
1. Fire Protection equipment and apparatus :
- Fire Alarm Boxes (pull boxes)
- Fire Blanket Boxes.
- Fire Buckets or pails
- Fire Exit Signs
- Fire Extinguishers (if painting the extinguisher is impractical or undesirable. color shoul be used on the housing, wall, or support to identify the location)
- Fire hose locations (color should be used on the reel, supports or housing,but not on the hose)
- Fire Hydrants (industrial)
- Fire Pumps
- Fire Sirens
- Post indicator valve or sprinkle system (it is suggested that if the traffic hazard is involved, the top should be colored red, and the barrel or post yellow and black stripes)
- Sprinkler piping. (See ANSI Standard scheme for identification of Piping Systems, A13.1 1956)
2. DANGER
Beside of used as identification of Fire Protection Equipment /piping. The Red color is can be marking as per "DANGER" identify. Safety cans or other portable containers of flammable liquids having a flashpoint at or below 80 degree F, table containers of flammable liquids (open cup tester) , excluding shipping containers, shall be painted red with some additional clearly vesible identification either in the form otf the content conspicuosly stenciled or painted on the can in yellow. Red lights shall be provided at barricades and at temporary obstructions, as specified in ANSI Safety code for uilding construction, A10.2 1944. Danger Signs shall be painted red.
3. STOP
Emergency stop bars on hazardous machines such as rubber mills, wire blocks, flat work ironers, etc, shall be red.Stop buttons or electrical switches on which letters of other markings appear used for emergency stopping of machinery shall be red.
2 ORANGE
Orange shall be used as the basic color for designating dangerous parts of he machines or energized equipment which may cut, crush, shock or otherwise injure and emphasize such hazards when enclosere doors are open or when gears, belt, or other guards around moving equipment are open or removed, exposing unguarded hazards.
3. YELLOW
Yellow shall be the basic color for designating cautin and for marking physical hazards such as : Striking against, stumbling, falling, tripping and caught on between. solid yellow, yellow with black strips, yellow and black checkers (or yellow with suitable contrasting background) should be used interchangeably , using the combination which will attract the most attention in the Particular environment.
4. GREEN
Green shall be used the basic color for designating "Safety" and the location of first aid equipment (other than fire fighting equipment)
5. BLUE
Blue shall be the basic color designating cautin, or a warning agaist the starting , the use, or the movement of equipment under repair or being worked upon.
6. PURPLE
Purple shall be the basic color for designating ratiation hazards. Radiation as in this subparagraph refers to radiation types such as x-ray, alpaha, beta, gamma, neutron, proton, deuteron and meson. Yellow should be used in combination with purple for markers such as tags, labels , signs and floor markers.
7. BLACK, WHITE OR COMBINATION OF BLACK AND WHITE.
Black, white ar the combination of these two, shall be teh basic colors for the designation of traffic and house keeping markings. Solid white, solid back, single color stripping, alternate strips of the black or white, or black and white checkers should be used in accordance with local conditions.
